Frenchy {Aged Paper} Candle Wraps

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle WrapsWant to learn how to age paper and spiff up your old candles? Then I have just the project for you! It’s super easy and doesn’t take long, either. It’s my frenchy vintage-look paper candle wraps!

KittyOur scheduled co-host, Miss Kitty is not available at the moment. She is too busy checking out the visitors at the bird feeder from her perch on my grandsons’ swing set. I guess I will be going it alone…again! I may have to begin docking some pay for my staff!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle Wraps I don’t know about you, but I am finding that my pillar candle collection is looking a little bedraggled and in need of a facelift. They are all different colors…varying shades of cream and white…and different sizes. Sooo…I have come up with a way to give them a more unified look with the vintage touches that I love! And if those numbers look familiar…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins …it’s because I used the same graphics to create my French farmhouse numbered napkins! I liked them so much that I wanted to use them again! Thanks so much to Karen at The Graphics Fairy for sharing the wreath with us. I just added the numbers.

First, you will need to print the numbers. If you click on them, you will see that the graphics are arranged in three sets of two numbers…1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6. You will need to print them as three different pages to get the right size for your pillar candles. They will need to run horizontally to be long enough to wrap around the candles.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT How to Age Paper Here’s what you will do:
  1. Cut the printed numbers into 4 1/4  by 11 inch strips…in other words, in half lengthwise.
  2. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Place two of the number strips on the sheet and cover with strong coffee. Let them soak for a few minutes until the entire strip is wet.
  3. Pour off the remaining coffee. You can save it for the next set of strips.
  4. Place in a preheated 200 degree oven for roughly 5 minutes. IMPORTANTDo NOT leave them unattended or let them stay in the oven too long. You can tell that they are just about ready when the edges begin to curl. The coffee will evaporate and leave the strips stained and aged-looking. Remove them from the oven and let them cool.

Make sure that the paper will be far enough away from the candle flame if you intend to light them. As with any lighted candles you would not want to leave them unattended. I probably will not light mine anyway but just use them for decoration.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Fairy Tale Book CoversYou might recognize the aged paper tutorial from my vintage French fairy tale book covers. You can find out how to make these using the free graphic that I created here. I chose my two favorite tales from one of my favorite classic French authors…Charles Perrault…and featured the fabulous illustrations of Gustave Doré.

I also used the same method to create my Country Living inspired filament bulb candles...gotta love the vintage look! You will find a complete tutorial, including a link to the graphics, by clicking here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle WrapsAnd here’s another look! I placed them in my grandmother’s dough bowl, anchored with dried black beans. Got to love the frenchiness and they were so easy to make. And…best of all...they were FREE! Woo hoo! You can’t beat that!
